Belgium urges its citizens to immediately leave Iran

The Belgian Foreign Ministry has again called on the country’s citizens to refrain from travelling to Iran, and those who are already there to leave the country as soon as possible.

“Any Belgian visitor [to Iran], including those having two nationalities [Belgian and Iranian], is at high risk of arrest, arbitrary detention, unfair trial, and ill-treatment. This risk also applies to people making simple tourist or business trips to Iran,” Interfax reports, citing the ministry’s special communiqué.

The foreign ministry reported a great risk of detention "throughout Iranian territory".

“Observance of fundamental rights and personal security cannot be guaranteed in case of arrest or detention,” the communiqué says.
