New Turkish Cabinet members sworn in at parliament

Türkiye’s new Cabinet members were sworn in at the country’s Grand National Assembly (Parliament) on June 7.

Interim Parliament Speaker Devlet Bahceli wished the vice president and Cabinet members success in their new positions, Anadolu reports.

He then invited the new cabinet members to the meeting hall to take the oath of office.

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Ozdemir Gektas, Labour and Social Protection Minister Vedat Ishikhan, Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Minister Mehmet Ozhaseki, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Youth and Sports Minister Osman Ashkin Bak, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Minister of National Defense Minister Yashar Güler, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli, Trade Omer Bolat Minister and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uralogu were sworn in at the presence of members of the 28th Parliament.

The composition of Türkiye’s new government was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the evening of June 3 after the inauguration ceremony in Ankara.

The Cabinet members were sworn in days after Erdogan took his oath as president on June 3 after emerging victorious in a historic run-off election that extended his two-decade rule for another five years.

His 52.2 per cent victory over rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu with 47.8 per cent came after the May 14 parliamentary elections gave his alliance a majority.

Erdogan’s AK Party has 268 seats in parliament, followed by CHP with 169 representatives.
