Türkiye warns France against meddling in domestic judicial matters
Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply criticised a recent statement issued by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, accusing France of interfering in Türkiye’s domestic judicial processes.
The Turkish ministry’s response was posted on the social media platform X, where it firmly rejected the French statement released on July 8, describing it as an unwarranted intrusion into ongoing legal matters, as reported by Caliber.Az.
“We categorically reject the statement made today by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which constitutes interference in the ongoing judicial processes in our country,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry emphasised that Türkiye upholds the rule of law and guarantees fair and impartial judicial proceedings for all citizens. It highlighted that the cases under scrutiny are being handled by independent courts in full compliance with the Turkish Constitution and national legislation.
Pointing to developments in France, the ministry referenced the recent prison sentence and election ban imposed on the main opposition leader there, as well as ongoing legal actions against several French mayors. It characterised the French statement as exhibiting “double standards.”
“We advise France to respect our domestic legal framework and the independence of our judiciary, to refrain from making political statements against other countries, and to focus on its own internal issues,” the statement concluded.
