Georgian Railway reports record cargo volumes in first half of 2026

Georgian Railway (GR) has transported a record 6.9 million tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2026, up 10% from the same period last year, the company has said.

The railway operator noted that the volume marks the highest level of freight traffic recorded in decades, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik.

The company stressed that new categories of cargo, previously absent or transported only in small volumes, were added to its freight operations during the January–June period.

Financial results also improved. Revenue rose 19% year-on-year to 352 million lari ($128 million).

Operating EBITDA increased 27% to 92.2 million lari ($33.5 million), while total EBITDA jumped 84% to 137 million lari ($49.8 million).

Net profit for the first six months of the year climbed 74% to 112.3 million lari ($40.8 million), while the company's EBITDA margin increased from 25% to 45%.
