Georgian MP says EU “on the brink of a civilizational abyss”
The European Union is abandoning its founding principles and is "on the brink of a civilizational abyss," Сhairman of the Georgian parliament's Legal Affairs Committee Archil Gorduladze has stated.
He argued that the EU was established on the principle of equality, enabling smaller states to engage with larger, more powerful members on equal terms, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
"The EU was founded on the principles of equality so that small states could speak on equal footing with countries possessing large economies, strong military capabilities and significant influence. However, it continues to move further away from its founding principles at every step, once again confirming that it is on the brink of a civilizational abyss," he noted.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos remarked that the EU is discussing the possibility of limiting voting rights for future member states.
