EU official: Hungary blocking new package of sanctions against Russia
Hungary blocked the new package of European sanctions against Russia because it did not agree with it, Foreign Affairs Minister of the European Union Josep Borrell confirmed.
The diplomat said this in an interview with the Spanish television company Televisión Española.
Borrell stressed that the European Union has a new package of sanctions against Russia, which it submitted to the Council for approval.
"It is blocked because there is a country - Hungary - that does not agree. We have to analyze the reasons," he explained.
Earlier, Bloomberg news agency, citing diplomatic sources, reported that at the moment EU countries have not yet been able to come to a compromise decision on the final list of sanctions, which should be included in the 11th package of Western international sanctions against Russia.
It was noted that some European states are against a too-harsh approach to the new sanctions against Russia.
