Armenian parliament speaker says no Karabakh issue exists for Yerevan

Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan has told journalists that the Karabakh issue does not exist for Yerevan.

The politician noted that Armenia recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including Karabakh, Caliber.Az reports.

"What does it mean whether the Karabakh issue has been resolved? What is the resolved or unresolved nature of the Karabakh issue? The Republic of Armenia faces no such issue now. The Republic of Armenia fully supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which includes ‘Nagorno-Karabakh’. We have probably talked about it eight times during the past year and a half," the speaker added.

He pointed out that the key issue for Armenia now is to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

Simonyan also underlined the possibility of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

If there is political will, a peace treaty with Azerbaijan can be signed within 15 days.

"It is possible to sign a peace treaty in the next 15 days if the Azerbaijani authorities really show political will. An agreement has been reached on all principal issues based on international law and the principle of equality," Simonyan noted.

He also said that currently there is no agreement on a meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to him, Armenia is ready to discuss any such proposal.

And this is despite the fact that only 70 days later Armenia responded to the proposals on the text of the peace treaty submitted by Azerbaijan to Armenia on September 11, 2023.
