Russia seeks to revoke citizenship for failing to enlist in military registry
A bill introducing a mechanism for revoking acquired Russian citizenship for evading military registration has been submitted to the State Duma.
The corresponding document on this review has been published in the State Duma’s electronic database, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media outlets.
The proposed amendments are in relation to those laws pertaining to the military duty and on citizenship of the Russian Federation.
An explanatory note that accompanied the proposed bill for the lower house of Russia's Federal Assembly states that this mechanism is necessary to implement the provisions of a law that was already adopted in August 2024, which dictates that failure to fulfil the obligation of initial military enlistment is grounds for revoking acquired citizenship.
The draft law stipulates that military enlistment offices will be authorized to issue the final decisions regarding individuals who evade registration without presenting a valid reason.
According to the article, such conclusions would most likely be forwarded to the territorial office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within five working days for a decision on revoking Russian citizenship.
