US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan ends mission in Georgia
U.S. Ambassador Robin Dunnigan has concluded her mission in Georgia against the backdrop of the suspended strategic partnership between the two countries and the Georgian Dream government’s yet unsuccessful efforts to reset relations with Washington.
Information about the early termination of her mandate and Dunnigan’s voluntary decision to leave the diplomatic service became known on June 5, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
According to the diplomat, stepping down was her personal decision, and there was no request for her recall.
“I know that the special bond between the American and Georgian people is unbreakable, and I know that Georgia’s place is within the family of Western democracies. By working together, I know we can create a better future for our children. I leave a piece of my heart in Georgia and will forever remain a true friend of the Georgian people,” the ambassador said in her farewell statement.
Before departing, the former ambassador also took a final opportunity to criticise Georgia’s ruling party, reiterating her negative view of the Georgian Dream government’s policies.
