Armenian businessman’ lawyers submit complaint to Prosecutor
The legal team of Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan has filed an official complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia, claiming that their client is being held in detention without legal grounds.
Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan stated that Karapetyan has been in custody since June 18, allegedly in connection with comments he made during a June 17 interview defending the Armenian Apostolic Church, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Vardevanyan argued that the detention lacks legal justification and described it as politically motivated.
"The Prosecutor’s Office is not only authorised but obligated to intervene in such cases of unlawful detention," he said.
The lawyer further claimed that the authorities interpreted Karapetyan’s interview as a call for the violent overthrow of the government. He rejected this interpretation, stating that the interview contained no such incitement or reference to violence.
