Political expert: Bulk of Armenians want a turn to West

“The West has begun implementing a systematic policy and strategy to bolster its positions in the South Caucasus, relying on Georgia and Armenia. The governments of these countries will most likely be informed about the steps being taken, but nothing more.”

Commenting on the relations between Armenia and Russia, the director of the Ashkhar Center for Strategic Studies, Hrachya Arzumanyan, wrote about this on his Facebook page, Caliber.Az reports.

“If you look at the situation from the position of a system specialist, then for Armenia the most important issue is Russian control over almost all-important infrastructures of the country. First: military security, energy, telecommunications, food security, and agricultural markets. The problem has been carefully created by the power elites of Armenia and the Russian Federation for decades, and the current authorities will not solve this problem quickly. However, there is such an option - quickly, but urgently - a topic worthy of a separate conversation. But, in any case, there are solutions, and now, I am sure, they are unfolding, although they are not yet visible to the public, including me as an expert.

“However, at the level of intuition, there is complete confidence that Armenia has begun to move away from Russia, regardless of the will and desire of the current government. This is possible because 95 per cent of Armenians agree to such a reversal after September 2023. In other words, the Armenian government has no choice but to agree with the desires/aspirations of the Armenian society in connection with the West’s intentions to enter the region and move away from Russia,” writes the political expert.
