Aghdam’s future takes shape with cutting-edge urban planning VIDEO

Aghdam’s large-scale reconstruction continues to take shape, with Asan TV releasing a detailed report on the transformation of the city—once devastated during the conflict in Karabakh—into a modern urban centre.

Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, outlined the key elements of the redevelopment program. He noted that no buildings in the city will exceed nine stories, while the main streets will range between 60 and 70 metres in width, Caliber.Az reports.

“The first road signs are being installed, and road markings are being applied. In the coming days, the first traffic lights will arrive, and radars will be installed. All cables run underground — you won’t see them on poles,” Huseynov said.

“We are putting up street-name plates and installing bus stops. We plan to restore bus services in the near future.”

He added that the newly designed Aghdam Bazaar will be situated between the second and fifth residential quarters.

Before the occupation, Aghdam covered an area of 700 square kilometres; under current plans, the city will expand to 2,000 square kilometres. Fifty-five percent of the district has already been fully cleared of mines.

The architectural plans for residential complexes were developed by teams from Azerbaijan, Austria, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye. While the districts will differ in style, all will share a dominant color palette centered on white.

Huseynov also outlined future demographic projections: “By mid-2027, Aghdam will be home to 20–25,000 people. Before the occupation, 42,000 people lived here, and our plan is for 100,000 people to live here.”
