Ahmed al-Sharaa reaffirms As-Suwayda’s integral role in Syrian unity

19 July 2025 15:45

On July 19, President Ahmed al-Sharaa reaffirmed that Syria is not a land for separatist or divisionist agendas.

He emphasised that the strength of the Syrian state is rooted in the unity of its people, as reported by Syrian media.

Al-Sharaa highlighted that the withdrawal of government forces from certain areas in As-Suwayda has worsened the situation. He noted that Damascus has received numerous international appeals to intervene and prevent the crisis from escalating further.

He also pointed out that some individuals within Syria have exhibited separatist ambitions. Al-Sharaa condemned the reliance of some on foreign powers and the exploitation of the people of As-Suwayda, stating that such actions do not serve anyone’s interests.

He stressed that As-Suwayda and its inhabitants have always been an inseparable part of the Syrian state.

Further, the president underscored the symbolic role of Syria’s Arab tribes, representing the country’s core values and principles. He reiterated that As-Suwayda and its people remain an essential part of Syria, and that the Druze community should not be persecuted because of the actions of a few.

Al-Sharaa confirmed the state’s commitment to holding accountable all those responsible for crimes against civilians, affirming that only the Syrian state has the capacity to protect everyone.

Expressing gratitude towards the tribes for their position, he called on them to respect the ceasefire. He also praised the role of the United States, saying Syria values the US support for the Syrian state during this crisis.

Additionally, he mentioned that the European Union, Russia, and China have condemned Israeli airstrikes, emphasising that this international consensus reflects a dedication to Syria’s unity and stability.

Lastly, al-Sharaa acknowledged the contributions of Arab countries, which have provided effective assistance, as well as Türkiye, which has become part of the regional efforts to maintain stability in the area.
