Air India CEO Campbell Wilson steps down following $1 billion losses

07 April 2026 17:43

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced his resignation on April 7 after nearly four years in the role.

The airline has been facing persistent financial losses and increased regulatory scrutiny following last year’s plane crash that claimed 260 lives, Caliber.Az reports, citing Reuters.

Wilson reportedly informed the Board of Directors of his decision back in 2024, but will remain in his position until a successor is appointed.

The board has already established a committee to search for a new CEO.

Financial pressures intensified after Pakistan banned the use of its airspace by Indian carriers.

The combined loss for Air India and Air India Express in the 2024–2025 fiscal year amounted to 98.08 billion rupees (approximately $1.05 billion).

Analysts note that finding a suitable candidate to continue ongoing reforms may be challenging, particularly in the wake of Willie Walsh’s recent appointment as CEO of IndiGo.
