Al Jazeera: Azerbaijani musicians aching to return to Karabakh VIDEO
International television channel Al Jazeera carries a report on Azerbaijani musicians who want to return to Karabakh.
According to Caliber.Az, the report specifically mentions the tar musical instrument and music teacher Mazahir Verdiyev, who played the tar before he was forced to leave Jabrayil during the First Karabakh War in the 1990s.
"Unfortunately, despite all the hardships we have had to endure, we have had to leave all our possessions behind. Everyone hopes to return to Jabrayil soon. Even after 30 years, we want to rebuild our lives there. I am looking forward to continuing to play the tar, to teaching the children and to helping them to learn this beautiful art," said Mazahir Verdiyev.
Musa Samadov, a master musical instrument maker, also expressed his desire to return to Karabakh.
"We struggled to make ends meet, but I never gave up this art. Our old musical traditions and instruments must be preserved. Can't wait for the day we can return home and continue our efforts," said Musa Samadov.
The story goes on to say that "almost every resident of Azerbaijan will tell you that they have a connection with Karabakh, especially the people who are dedicated to the arts. They call it the cultural centre of the country. They say there is something about this land that makes it the best home for musical talent".
Nigar Jamal's grandfather was a migrant from Zangezur. She says singers help people heal and everyone should give peace a chance.
"Music is very universal. We can reach out, touch, share emotions, pain and sadness. I think that is very important," said Nigar Jamal.
