Azerbaijani president inaugurates two major educational facilities in Aghdam PHOTO
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated two key educational institutions in the city of Aghdam on July 18 —a newly constructed nursery-kindergarten and a modern secondary school — marking a significant step in the ongoing restoration of the liberated territories.
The newly opened nursery-kindergarten No. 1, designed to accommodate 160 children, was built as part of the “First State Program on the Great Return to the Liberated Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” Construction began in February of last year, and earlier this year, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the site to review progress, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
The facility is fully equipped to ensure children's comfort and support high-quality early education and development. It features playrooms, bedrooms, and specialised halls for music, dance, and sports. As resettlement progresses in the liberated territories, the construction of preschool institutions like this one remains an integral part of the broader restoration and reconstruction efforts.
On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev also attended the opening ceremony of Aghdam city secondary school No. 1, which has a capacity of 960 students. Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev provided the President with an overview of the school’s facilities.
The foundation of the school was laid by President Aliyev on May 28, 2021, and in February of this year, the President and the First Lady inspected the construction site. Also implemented under the “First State Program on the Great Return,” the school includes 43 classrooms, 16 administrative offices, and a seven-room STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) center.
The building is outfitted with modern physics, chemistry, and biology labs, an informatics room, a pre-military training room, a library, a museum, a 352-seat canteen, and a 468-seat assembly hall. It also features two indoor sports halls, along with a football pitch and basketball court.
Establishing a modern educational infrastructure in Karabakh remains a top priority. Under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, large-scale efforts are underway to restore and develop educational facilities across the liberated territories. The opening of Aghdam city secondary school No. 1 stands as a clear example of these initiatives.
