China supplies Azerbaijan with demining x-ray devices, official says
China has supplied Azerbaijan with two X-ray devices for demining operations, with the equipment being among the latest technologies available for mine clearance, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), has stated.
Speaking at a briefing marking the 28th anniversary of ANAMA, he announced the delivery and said Azerbaijan uses it for demining operations in enclosed spaces, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“In particular, it is employed during the clearance of houses," he noted.
According to a survey, around 11,667 square kilometres — equivalent to 13.4% of the country's territory — remain contaminated. The lingering presence of mines and unexploded ordnance continues to endanger civilians and impede economic recovery, agricultural production, infrastructure projects, and the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
As of January 2026, nearly 249,000 hectares had reportedly been cleared, while more than 236,000 explosive devices had been located and safely destroyed.
Specialists believe the full clearance process could take as long as 30 years and may require funding of roughly $25 billion.
