President: Slovak delegation impressed with reconstruction work in Shusha
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said he immediately accepted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s proposal to hold their official talks in the city of Shusha.
Speaking in an interview with Mikhail Gusman on AnewZ television, the Slovak president said although he had visited Azerbaijan several times previously, his visit to Shusha was his first.
“This is my first visit to Shusha. And it was an idea of Mr President Aliyev, which asked me if I would agree that the official meeting with the ceremony and everything will happen not in Baku but this time in Shusha. And of course, immediately I said yes because I know the history about this territory. And we really appreciate the work which has been done to finish this long period, and now we are here, as you mentioned, in free Shusha,” he said.
Pellegrini said he and his delegation had been impressed by the reconstruction work underway in the city.
“We are impressed, the whole delegation, from the first moment when we arrived. [...] by the huge infrastructure investment and what is going on here,” he said.
The Slovak president paid an official visit to Azerbaijan from July 13 to 15.
