Moroccan official at Shusha forum calls for restoring public trust
The restoration of public trust must become a key priority alongside efforts to combat disinformation, Latifa Akharbach, chairperson of Morocco's High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), has said at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.
She noted that research shows that 56 percent of people receive news primarily from social media, and the credibility of this news raises serious questions, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“This is one of the main challenges facing us," Akharbach added.
She stressed that the main objective is not only to fight disinformation but also to rebuild public confidence.
According to her, every country has its own approach and model for the development of media and communications.
"This platform creates a favourable opportunity for sharing our experience and expertise. Public discussions on social platforms are becoming increasingly extensive. Under such conditions, the role of fact-checking and professional journalism serving the public interest becomes even more important," she emphasised.
