Kalbajar commemorates victims of 1989 helicopter tragedy

A commemorative ceremony was held in Azerbaijan's Kalbajar district on July 14 to mark the anniversary of a helicopter crash that killed eight children in 1989.

The event was attended by relatives of the victims, local residents and teachers from Kalbajar Secondary School No. 1. Participants visited the victims' graves and paid their respects, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The tragedy occurred on July 14, 1989, when a military helicopter that had landed at Kalbajar's city stadium crashed during takeoff. According to historical accounts, the helicopter's main rotor blades struck a group of children who were near the stadium, killing eight minors.
