Former Khojaly IDP hopes all displaced Azerbaijanis to one day return home
Azerbaijani liberated Khojaly region’s Khanyurdu resident, Mirza Jabbarov, says returning to his native land after 33 years is a moment of overwhelming joy.
Speaking to a correspondent from Report, Jabbarov recalled the pain of being forced to flee his village in 1992 and the long wait to come back, Caliber.Az reports.
“We were forced to leave our village in 1992. Today we are happily returning to our homeland. Our joy knows no bounds,” he said. “My wish from God is that all our compatriots who have become internally displaced persons return to their homeland. I wish everyone to experience the joy of returning to Yerevan, Goycha, and Zangezur in the near future.”
Jabbarov’s family is among the first group of families returning to the Khanyurdu and Tazabina villages in Khojaly region under Azerbaijan’s “Great Return” program.
As part of the initial resettlement phase, on July 14, 33 families (122 people) returned to the village of Khanyurdu, while 28 families (125 people) moved back to Tazabina.
