Alibaba vows legal steps following addition to US Pentagon blacklist

09 June 2026 12:51

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group has said it will take legal action against what it called the misrepresentation of its image after being added to a Pentagon blacklist.

“There’s no basis to conclude that Alibaba should be placed on the Section 1260H List,” it said in an emailed response to the SCMP.

“Alibaba is not a Chinese military company nor part of any military-civil fusion strategy. We will take all available legal action against attempts to misrepresent our company,” the group added.

Earlier, the US Department of Defence added Alibaba, search engine Baidu, and electric vehicle and battery manufacturer BYD to a list of “Chinese military companies” allegedly cooperating with the People’s Liberation Army.
