ANAMA deploys advanced technologies in humanitarian demining efforts

28 November 2025 18:00

Azerbaijan has cleared 242,700 hectares of land of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the country’s territories liberated since the 2020 Patriotic War,.

Ramil Azizov, head of the Education and Victim Assistance Department at the Azerbaijan Republic Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), stated that 169,972 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 39,728 anti-personnel mines, and 22,822 anti-tank mines were detected and neutralised between November 2020 and November 27, 2025, Caliber.Az reports via local media

Azizov noted that ANAMA currently employs some of the most advanced technologies available for humanitarian demining. He explained that operations utilize magnetic locators, metal detectors, remotely operated mechanical demining systems, large-loop detectors, and deep-search devices. He added that DGPS-type systems are used to determine precise geographical coordinates, while specialised training simulators help improve the skills of demining personnel.

According to Azizov, these technologies complement one another and enable both accurate and safe clearance operations. He also indicated that, depending on the level of contamination and the characteristics of the terrain, multiple demining techniques are often applied within the same area.
