Armenia rejects Russian guidance, vows to secure its own future
Sargis Khandanyan, Committee Chair for the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations at the Armenian National Assembly and a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, declared that Armenia will not allow Russia to dictate how to secure the country’s future.
“We have enough saviors, and the Armenian people do not need rescuers from outside Armenia,” Khandanyan said as he addressed the 12th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership (Euronest), Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Khandanyan highlighted that Armenia faces hybrid threats similar to those recently observed in Moldova, saying, “We in Armenia also observe patterns of hybrid attacks, similar to those Moldova has mentioned.”
The lawmaker noted that the regional situation has shifted, and a very fragile peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He stressed the importance of doing everything possible to ensure that this peace becomes sustainable.
Looking ahead, Khandanyan emphasized that the unblocking of communications and the implementation of the TRIPP project will not only benefit Armenia but also bring Central Asia closer to the European Union. “This is a valuable guarantee of security in the region,” he concluded, underlining the strategic significance of regional cooperation and integration.
