Armenia's foreign intelligence service to oversee access to state secrets
Armenia's Foreign Intelligence Service will now be responsible for authorizing access to information containing state secrets, according to a decision made by the Armenian government.
The decision designates the service as the primary body tasked with coordinating the control and enforcement of secrecy regulations within the country, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
Under the new directive, if representatives of the Foreign Intelligence Service have doubts about individuals seeking access to classified information, they will be granted the authority to conduct additional checks to ensure that the secrecy regime is maintained.
This move is expected to tighten security measures surrounding sensitive state data.
The Foreign Intelligence Service was separated from Armenia's National Security Service in December 2022. Kristinne Grigoryan, the former Ombudsperson of Armenia, was appointed as the head of the newly independent service.
