Armenia’s security threats decline to low level — intelligence chief
Security threats to Armenia have decreased in recent months and are currently at a low level, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Kristinne Grigoryan said, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“This assessment refers to the current period, but the situation can change quickly. Today, however, risks are significantly lower than they were several months ago or last year,” Grigoryan stated during the “Comprehensive Security and Resilience” conference in Yerevan.
According to her, the improvement is primarily linked to the agreements signed on August 8 in Washington between the leaders of Armenia, the United States, and Azerbaijan, while progress in border delimitation has also played an important role.
“New opportunities have been created, but much remains to be done,” she said.
Grigoryan stressed that the best tribute to the victims of the conflict is taking steps to prevent new threats.
At the same time, she warned that risks of hybrid attacks against democracy persist.
“In the world, there is no country where such attacks come from a single source, and Armenia is no exception,” she stated.
She added that it is particularly important for society to treat unverified information with a critical approach, which would help to improve the country’s information environment.
