Armenian FM: Talks with Türkiye continue, yet no breakthrough in sight
Armenia's Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, has stated that despite ongoing active dialogue with Türkiye, significant breakthroughs have yet to be achieved.
Mirzoyan made these remarks during a panel discussion in Yerevan attended by speakers from the Baltic parliaments, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The minister emphasized that negotiations with Türkiye, whose borders with Armenia have remained closed for three decades, are being conducted at a high level. According to him, both sides recognize that opening the border could benefit not only the two nations but the entire region.
“There is intensive dialogue underway, but unfortunately, there are no serious, tangible results ‘on the ground’ yet,” Mirzoyan remarked.
Note that, in December 2021, Yerevan and Ankara appointed special representatives to begin negotiations aimed at normalizing their bilateral relations. By July 2022, a key agreement was reached in Vienna, which ensured the possibility for third-country nationals to cross the land border between Armenia and Türkiye, facilitating travel to both countries.
The deal also outlined the establishment of direct air cargo routes and the necessary processes to implement them.
However, despite this progress, the issue remains unresolved, with continued delays in fully implementing the agreements.
