Armenian PM rejects return of Karabakh issue to political agenda
In a clear rejection of any future political focus on the Karabakh separatist movement, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared on April 16 that the movement would not continue in Armenia.
His comments came in response to questions regarding ex-President Serzh Sargsyan's recent call to revive the so-called "Karabakh issue" in Armenia’s political agenda, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Pashinyan responded firmly, stating, “I have already addressed this matter, even before that statement [by Sargsyan] was made. I stated clearly that the Karabakh movement will not have a future in Armenia.”
Earlier, Pashinyan stated that he will step down if the people of Armenia oppose his decision to put an end to the "Karabakh movement."
"As prime minister of the Republic of Armenia, I have made the decision that the Karabakh movement must come to an end. If the people of the Republic of Armenia are against my decision, I will no longer serve as prime minister of Armenia. As long as I remain prime minister, this is the official position of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan declared.
