ASTRA: Russia strikes civilian cargo vessel in Black Sea

A civilian cargo vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was struck in the Black Sea in a Russian attack, killing the vessel’s captain, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

The authority said the Russian Armed Forces struck the vessel during the night of September 23, causing a fire on board, ASTRA reports. 

“The attack caused a fire on board the vessel,” the authority said.

The crew was evacuated by the Ukrainian Navy, while the fire was subsequently extinguished, according to the statement.

“The vessel’s captain was killed,” the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said.
