At least 20 killed in Kabul mosque explosion
At least 20 people were killed and 40 injured in an explosion that occurred at a mosque in northeast Kabul on August 17.
This was reported by the Al Jazeera TV channel with reference to a source in the security structures of Afghanistan, according to TASS.
Earlier on August 17, the Afghan TV channel TOLOnews informed with reference to local residents that an explosion had occurred in the Khair Khan district, located northeast of Kabul. As the Aaj News agency later clarified, the explosion occurred in the Sadikiya mosque. According to local residents, the sounds of gunshots were also heard.
It is indicated that representatives of the Taliban movement that seized power in the country have not yet commented on what happened.
In recent months, a series of explosions, armed attacks and shootings have occurred in a number of provinces of Afghanistan, including the capital region, the victims of which were both supporters of the Taliban and civilians. The Islamic State in Khorasan, an offshoot of the Islamic State terrorist organisation banned in the Russian Federation, claimed responsibility for many of these incidents.
