Austria hospitalises Uganda traveller over suspected Ebola infection
A tourist who recently travelled from Uganda has been hospitalised in Austria with symptoms consistent with Ebola fever, according to Kronen Zeitung, citing the State Health Directorate.
Officials said a resident of the Urfahr-Umgebung district was admitted for inpatient examination after developing symptoms of illness. Given recent travel history to Uganda, the patient was immediately isolated and is receiving treatment in line with medical protocols.
“Yesterday, a resident of the Urfahr-Umgebung district was hospitalised for inpatient examination due to symptoms of illness. As this person had returned from Uganda, they were isolated and are being treated according to medical recommendations,” the health authority said.
If Ebola infection is confirmed, this would represent the first recorded case in Europe during the current outbreak period.
