Austria may cancel simplified visa regime with Russia very soon

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said in an interview with the Wiener Zeitung newspaper on September 8 that the visa facilitation agreement between Russia and the EU could be frozen from September 12.

“This [the decision to freeze the agreement] can actually come into force as early as Monday,” the diplomat said.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing, said that the suspension by the European Union of an agreement on a simplified visa regime with Russia does not meet the interests of the Europeans themselves. According to her, statements about the threat to the national security of the EU countries are "absurd".
