Axios: Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff discuss possible Iran deal with Qatari PM

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff discussed the possibility of reaching a deal with Iran during talks with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, Axios reports, citing sources.

According to the report, the meeting took place in Miami, Florida, on May 9. The sides focused on finding a path toward a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war.

The outlet added that the United States has not yet received a response from Iran regarding the proposed draft memorandum.

Sources told Axios that Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia are working in tandem to advance an agreement. "The mediators are urging both parties to de-escalate and focus on getting a deal," one of the sources said.
