AZAL reminds travelers of mandatory health insurance for Georgia
Azerbaijan’s national carrier, AZAL, has once again reminded passengers traveling to Georgia of the country’s updated entry requirements.
Effective January 1, 2026, all foreign nationals entering Georgia are required to hold a valid medical insurance policy. The mandate applies to travelers visiting the country for tourism, business, or transit purposes, Caliber.Az reports.
Under the regulations, foreign visitors must maintain medical and accident insurance coverage for the entire duration of their stay, from the date of entry until departure. The minimum coverage amount is set at 30,000 Georgian lari ($11,150 ).
Insurance policies may be issued by either Georgian or foreign providers and must be presented in electronic or paper form, in either Georgian or English.
AZAL advises passengers to secure their insurance prior to departure to avoid potential fines, delays, or additional procedures upon arrival.
The airline stressed that the insurance requirement is mandated by the competent Georgian authorities, and verification of coverage at flight check-in is informational, designed to ensure passengers are aware of entry rules in advance.
This requirement is enforced under Georgia’s Law on Tourism and the government decree on the approval of the rules and conditions for mandatory health and accident insurance for tourists entering the country.
