On October 15–16, the 19th Non-Aligned Movement(NAM) Ministerial Meeting convened in Kampala, Uganda, bringing together delegates from member states to deliberate on pressing global issues including the enhancement of international peace and security, sustainable development, and the institutional strengthening of the movement.
Representing Azerbaijan, a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov actively participated in the discussions, pointing out the country’s pivotal role during its current chairmanship of the NAM, Caliber.Az reports.
In his address, Sharifov highlighted the country’s ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing the institutional development of the movement, emphasizing the critical need for solidarity and unity among member states to effectively navigate global challenges.
Further, Sharifov provided an update on Azerbaijan’s progress concerning the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agenda, detailing the comprehensive reconstruction efforts underway in territories recently liberated from occupation. These developments, he noted, reflect Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering regional stability and sustainable peace.
The ministerial gathering also facilitated a series of bilateral engagements. Notably, Azerbaijan formalized agreements with Uganda and Somalia establishing mutual visa-free regimes for holders of diplomatic and service passports. These accords are expected to enhance diplomatic cooperation and facilitate smoother official exchanges between the respective governments.
