Azerbaijan greenlights legal assistance deal with China to combat transnational crime
The Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan has officially ratified an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters with the People's Republic of China, further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of justice and law enforcement.
The bill concerning the agreement was brought before the parliament during a plenary session of its extraordinary sitting, where it was reviewed and subsequently approved in a single reading, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The agreement, originally signed in Beijing on April 23, 2025, sets out a framework for broad legal cooperation between the two countries in the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of criminal cases. Under the terms of the treaty, both Azerbaijan and China commit to providing the widest possible mutual legal assistance under their respective legal systems and the provisions outlined in the agreement.
Specifically, the assistance may be rendered regardless of whether the request is made or executed by a judicial authority or another competent body. The agreement is designed to enhance the efficiency and transparency of cross-border legal collaboration, particularly in combating transnational crime.
During the parliamentary session, lawmakers emphasized the importance of international legal partnerships in an increasingly interconnected global environment, particularly in the context of shared security interests and legal obligations.
Following discussion, the document was put to a vote and adopted without objection, signaling strong legislative support for deeper judicial ties between Baku and Beijing.
