Azerbaijan halts truck crossings with Iran after drone strikes
The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has announced a temporary suspension of truck traffic across the state border with Iran.
The decision follows drone attacks on March 5 targeting civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The strikes, launched from Iranian territory, hit Nakhchivan International Airport, a local school, and other facilities. Several civilians were reported injured, and the airport terminal sustained damage.
“Given the situation arising from these attacks, which violate international law and norms, the Cabinet of Ministers has made the decision to temporarily suspend all truck traffic—including transit vehicles—through all border crossing points along the Azerbaijan-Iran state border,” the statement said.
Authorities emphasized that the suspension is a direct response to the security threats posed by the strikes and aims to ensure the safety of personnel and goods at border crossings.
