Azerbaijan marks second anniversary of anti-terrorist Operation Revenge VIDEO
Two years have passed since the start of the anti-terrorist Operation Revenge, conducted by the Azerbaijani army in Karabakh against illegal Armenian armed formations.
As Caliber.Az recalls, on August 3, 2022, members of the illegal Armenian armed formations, on Azerbaijani territory where a temporary Russian peacekeeping contingent was stationed, provoked Azerbaijani army units by violating the provisions of the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020. As a result of this provocation, Azerbaijani serviceman Kazimov Anar Rustam oglu was killed.
Additionally, members of the illegal Armenian armed formations attempted to seize the Girkhgiz height of the mountain range encompassing the Kalbajar and Lachin regions and establish new combat positions there.
As a result of the Revenge counter-operation conducted by Azerbaijani army units, the Girkhgiz heights, Saribaba, and other strategically significant heights were brought under control. Azerbaijani Armed Forces then carried out engineering work to establish new positions and construct access roads.
During the operation, several combat positions of the Armenian illegal armed formations were destroyed, an airstrike was carried out on a military unit stationed in the settlement of Yukhari Oratag of the former Agdara district. Furthermore, personnel, several D-30 howitzers, military transport vehicles, and a stockpile of ammunition of the Armenian illegal armed formations were destroyed.
Azerbaijan had repeatedly stated that the presence of Armenian Armed Forces and Armenian illegal armed formations on Azerbaijani territory where Russian peacekeepers were stationed, contrary to the trilateral statement, continues to pose a threat. The demilitarization of these areas, the complete withdrawal of Armenian troops, and the disarmament of Armenian illegal armed formations were mandatory.
The Ministry of Defense stated that any terrorist actions and provocations on Azerbaijani sovereign territories would be decisively suppressed, and retaliatory measures will be even more devastating.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched anti-terror measures to disable Armenian army forces and military infrastructure in the Karabakh region, thereby asserting its sovereignty over all internationally recognized territories.
