Azerbaijan–US ties move toward deeper institutionalisation through high-level talks PHOTO
President Ilham Aliyev met US Congressman Abraham Hamadeh in Baku on June 17 to discuss the strengthening of Azerbaijan–US strategic ties, the institutionalisation of bilateral cooperation through a strategic partnership framework, and regional peace efforts alongside expanded cooperation in energy, security, and connectivity.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the successful development of Azerbaijan–US relations following the return of Donald Trump to office for a second term, Caliber.Az reports, citing state media.
The head of state noted his high-level personal relations with the US President and recalled his visits to the United States and meetings with Donald Trump, as well as the visit of Vice President JD Vance to Azerbaijan.
He also underlined that the signing of the “Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America” carries historic importance for the expansion of bilateral relations.
The discussions also touched upon Abraham Hamadeh’s role as a co-sponsor of the legislative initiative in the US Congress aimed at repealing Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, with its significance for bilateral cooperation emphasised during the meeting.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that Abraham Hamadeh’s visit to Azerbaijan would be successful.
The guest expressed satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan, noting that the country is located in a geographically unique region.
He also highlighted that Azerbaijan hosts major international sporting events such as UFC and Formula 1.
The conversation further addressed the efforts of both the Azerbaijani and US presidents to deepen the strategic partnership, with emphasis placed on the importance both leaders attach to the development of interstate relations.
Donald Trump’s role in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia was specifically noted, along with discussions on the opportunities that the TRIPP corridor could create for regional transport connectivity.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on strengthening dialogue between Azerbaijan and the US Congress. It was noted that there are strong prospects for expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, security, connectivity, technology, and other fields, while the future of Azerbaijan–US partnership was also discussed.
