Azerbaijani agency to address signage violation at Baku's "Russian House"

The State Advertising Agency of Azerbaijan (ADRA) has announced plans to take action following a violation of legal requirements in the signage of the "Russian House" in Baku.

In response to an inquiry by local media, ADRA confirmed that it would exercise its authority to address the issue, Caliber.Az reports.

According to Azerbaijani laws, including the "On Advertising" and "On the State Language of the Republic of Azerbaijan," advertisements can feature text in a foreign language alongside Azerbaijani upon request by the advertiser. However, the foreign language text must appear after the Azerbaijani text and should not exceed its size.

The violation at the "Russian House" occurred on the sign above its entrance, where the name of the structure in Azerbaijani was placed after the Russian language text, in direct contravention of the law.

"Within the authority granted to the Agency by the relevant legislative acts, all necessary measures will be taken regarding this violation," ADRA emphasized in its statement.

Under established procedures, when violations are detected, ADRA drafts an act and issues a mandatory order to the advertiser to rectify the issue within five days. If the required changes are not made, further steps will be taken to halt the distribution of the advertisement.

Additionally, ADRA will act under the Administrative Offenses Code if signs of misconduct by the advertiser or distributor are found. In cases where criminal activity is suspected, the agency will inform the relevant authorities.
