Azerbaijani, Armenian leaders consider nominating Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking at a ceremony at the White House, said that together with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, he may submit an appeal to the Nobel Committee proposing that U.S. President Donald Trump be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Caliber.Az reports.
He noted that for the leaders of countries that had been at war for more than three decades, the signing of a historic document in Washington holds great significance and is a tangible result of President Trump’s leadership. Aliyev recalled that since the early 1990s, many U.S. presidents had come and gone, while the so-called Minsk Process — which was formally concluded today — had dragged on under the OSCE’s auspices for over thirty years without result.
The head of state stressed that, unlike cases where the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to people “who did not do anything at all,” President Trump achieved a breakthrough in six months and brought an end to a protracted conflict. He expressed confidence that his Armenian counterpart would support the initiative and stated that upon their return, the sides could coordinate and send a joint letter.
