Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has inaugurated the AZWOOL mineral rock wool plant, a new facility owned by construction materials producer Matanat-A, in Baku’s Garadagh district.
Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and Matanat-A Supervisory Board Chairman Elkhan Bashirov briefed the president on the plant, as well as on the company’s wider operations, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
Founded in 2000, Matanat-A manufactures dry construction mixtures, gypsum boards, lime products, machinery and equipment, and operates the ELBERG machine-building plant. Its various enterprises employ nearly 1,000 people.
The AZWOOL plant spans 10 hectares and is equipped with modern technology sourced from the United States, Germany and Türkiye. It has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres of mineral rock wool, largely using local raw materials. The project represents an investment of 43 million manats ($25 million).
Financing includes a 10 million manat ($5.9 million) preferential loan from the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund and around 4 million manats ($2.4 million) in concessions on imported equipment through an investment promotion certificate. The facility has created 180 new jobs.
The plant will produce environmentally friendly mineral rock wool used for thermal and acoustic insulation, supporting energy-efficient construction. With strong demand domestically and abroad, the facility is expected to reduce Azerbaijan’s dependence on imports and supply export markets including Georgia, CIS countries and the Middle East.
President Aliyev also reviewed Matanat-A’s broader product range. The company manufactures more than 3,000 items under over 200 trademarks, exporting products under the “Made in Azerbaijan” label to Kazakhstan, Georgia, Iraq, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and other markets. The head of state officially commissioned the plant.
