Azerbaijani Army thwarts illegal Armenian armed groups’ fortification efforts
The Azerbaijani Army units have thwarted the efforts of the illegal Armenian armed groups on its territory.
“On July 11, starting from 10:05 to 14:55, members of illegal Armenian armed detachments in the territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed, attempted to install long-term fortification facilities in front of the Azerbaijan Army positions stationed in the directions of the Aghdam, Kalbajar, and Lachin regions,” the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.
The conducted work was immediately stopped as a result of the urgent measures taken by the Azerbaijan Army Units, the report added.
To recap, about 2,000 Russian peacekeepers have been deployed for five years in Karabakh under the trilateral cease-fire deal signed by Baku, Moscow and Yerevan on November 10, 2020. The signed agreement obliged Armenia to withdraw all its troops from the Azerbaijani lands that it had occupied since the early 1990s.
Armenia, contrary to paragraph 4 of the trilateral statement, still does not withdraw the remnants of the Armenian armed forces from the region. Armenia continues to send servicemen to the region in violation of Article 6 of the statement.
