Azerbaijani eco-activist demands monitoring of illegally exploited deposits in Karabakh
Mineral deposits located in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh economic region are illegally exploited.
The statement came from Abdin Abbasov, the participant of the peaceful protest demonstration on the Khankendi-Lachin road and an expert ecologist of the "Ecosphere" Social-Ecological Centre, Report informs.
The eco-activist urged to immediately prevent these illegal activities in the territory of Azerbaijan.
"Besides, there is a serious need for environmental monitoring to assess the impact of the works conducted in the fields on the environment,” Abbasov noted.
"The impact of these works on the environment should be studied and analyzed. There should be conditions for monitoring, and assessment of the impact of illegal works on the environment with the provision of the results to the public. This is what we demand. Every resident of the country must know what is happening in the [mineral] deposits and to what extent it affects nature," he said.
The peaceful protest action on the Khankendi-Lachin road by Azerbaijani civil activists, who demand to stop the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in Karabakh, has been continuing for eight days.
