Azerbaijani FM: Relations with Russia have been fully normalised UPDATED
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said bilateral relations with Russia have been fully normalised following a period of tensions, crediting the progress to the personal efforts of the two countries' presidents.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after talks in Moscow, Bayramov said the two countries had overcome recent difficulties in their bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
"We have encountered difficulties in our recent bilateral relations, and we are pleased to note that we have been able to turn the page and fully normalise the entire spectrum of relations. This was made possible thanks to the personal commitment of our presidents. This process took place following a personal meeting between the two heads of state on the sidelines of an international event in Dushanbe," Bayramov said.
He described the talks with Lavrov as "very thorough and productive," saying the ministers had reviewed a broad range of bilateral and regional issues.
"We were able to review the entire range of events. We also focused on the implementation of existing agreements discussed at the highest level, and highlighted the prospects for cooperation in a number of new areas. The issue of trade and economic cooperation between our countries was specifically addressed. Despite the challenges facing the global economy, we are pleased to note that this track in our relations is positive," the Azerbaijani foreign minister added.
