Azerbaijani para taekwondo player Imameddin Khalilov (K-44) has won a gold medal in the 70 kg weight category at the World Championship in Mexico.
The athlete, who entered the fight from the 1/8 finals, defeated the reigning world and European champion from Spain with a score of 7:3 in his first fight, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation..
In the quarterfinals Khalilov defeated Georgian athlete - 16:2. In the semifinals the Azerbaijani para-taekwondist fought with the representative of Cuba. In a tense confrontation, the member of the Azerbaijani national team won (12:9).
In the final Imameddin Khalilov was stronger than Uzbek athlete and became the world champion.
Thus, the Azerbaijani para taekwondo player for the sixth time became a prize-winner in the last six tournaments, in which he performed.
It should be noted that the tournament will end on September 24. On the last day of the championship Abulfaz Abuzarli (80 kg, K-44) will enter the fight.
