Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Sahiba Gafarova and Romanian Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciolacu have discussed energy security issues.

The meeting was held as part of Gafarova’s official visit to Romania, Caliber.Az reports, citing the public relations and press department of the Milli Majlis.

At the meeting, the Romanian premier spoke about the important role of Azerbaijan in ensuring the energy security of the European Union.

According to him, Azerbaijan plays an important role in the transport sector and there are good opportunities to strengthen transport links between the Black and Caspian Seas. Ion Marcel Ciolacu noted the importance of green energy projects, saying that Europe currently has a serious need for green energy, and the issue of its export from Azerbaijan is of great importance.

Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring the energy security of the European Union, he added.

Noting the successful development of strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Romania, the politician emphasized that Azerbaijan and Romania are not only partners but also friendly countries.

According to the prime minister, Romania is the first EU country to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Azerbaijan.

In turn, Gafarova noted that relations between the two countries are at a good level, trade turnover is growing. In addition, there is enormous potential for increased cooperation in various fields.

At the meeting, it was noted that one of the main areas of cooperation between the two countries is energy cooperation.
