Azerbaijan refutes Armenian allegations of gunfire near Khaznavar

24 April 2025 09:02

The Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan has categorically denied claims made by the Armenian side, labelling recent accusations as part of an ongoing disinformation campaign.

In a statement issued late on April 23, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence rejected allegations that Azerbaijani Army units had opened fire in the direction of the Khaznavar settlement at approximately 22:20, Caliber.Az reports.

"The information released by the Armenian Ministry of Defence claiming that Azerbaijani Army units allegedly opened fire in the direction of the Khaznavar settlement at around 22:20 on April 23 is yet another piece of disinformation and does not reflect the truth," the statement reads.

The Ministry further underscored that Azerbaijani forces maintain strict adherence to rules of engagement, especially concerning non-combatant areas.

"We reiterate that Azerbaijani Army units never open fire towards civilians or civilian infrastructure."

The statement also pointed to a broader tactic employed by the Armenian side to manipulate international perception amid tensions in the region.

"The opposite side is attempting to cover up its own provocations and mislead the international community by spreading such deliberate disinformation and false claims."
