Azerbaijan demands action against ethnic hatred following flag burnings in Yerevan and Paris
On April 23, the Azerbaijani flag was burned in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, and again on April 24 in Paris, France. These acts were met with strong condemnation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
“We strongly condemn the burning of Azerbaijan’s flag during the ‘torchlight procession’ in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital on April 23, as well as during a gathering of the Armenian community in the French capital Paris on April 24,” the ministry declared, per Caliber.Az.
The statement further emphasised that both the Armenian and French governments should have acted swiftly to prevent such actions. “The governments of Armenia and France should have prevented such campaigns embodied in ethnic hatred, in a timely manner and should have taken appropriate security measures.”
Moreover, the ministry urged both governments to take responsibility for these events, adding: “The governments of Armenia and France should hold those responsible for these acts accountable.”
In conclusion, the Ministry highlighted the continuing risk posed by these acts, urging international condemnation: “Such acts, which are still a clear manifestation of a revanchist and ethnic hatred-based mindset in Armenia and beyond, should be condemned and prevented at the international level.”
