New Caledonia election results take center stage at Baku Initiative Group meeting PHOTO
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) held an online meeting to discuss the results of local elections in New Caledonia.
The event brought together representatives from New Caledonia, Réunion, Mayotte Island, the Union of the Comoros Islands, and French Guiana, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Jean-Baptiste Dialle, representing the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS), said the elections had been a success for supporters of independence.
During the meeting, representatives of the Kanak people said that trust in the electoral process had declined among part of the population. Meanwhile, Orlane Taristas of the Ka Ubuntu party and activist Dimitri Qenegei described the voting results as an important milestone in the struggle for independence.
Participants also held a symbolic flash mob in support of the Kanak people and the winners of the June 28 elections. They later thanked the Baku Initiative Group for its support and attention to decolonisation issues.
